Thursday, October 6 through Sunday, November 6
To improve the visitor experience on weekends, we are shifting to timed ticket entry for Prime Nights (Fri. – Sun.). As a result, tickets for Prime Nights MUST be purchased online. Timed Entry tickets are non-refundable, and cannot be rescheduled.
As a courtesy to all our guests, timed entry will be strictly enforced. Visitors who arrive before their allotted time will not be allowed to enter, and those who arrive after their timed entry window will be required to wait as the Zoo gives priority to guests who arrive within their timeslot.
While there still may be a line inside the Zoo heading to the beginning of the pumpkin trail, the experience of driving to the Zoo and parking will be significantly improved on these typically heavily attended evenings.
While the Zoo opens to the public at 5:30pm, the pumpkin trail doesn't open until dusk, which is after 6pm particularly in the first weeks of October. This is to offer all of our guests optimal viewing of the jack-o-lanterns.
Zoo entry Value Nights (Mon. – Thurs.): 5:30 – 10pm, trail closes at 11pm.
Zoo entry Prime Nights (Fri. – Sun.): Timed ticket entry only beginning at 5:30pm. Trail closes one hour after last entry. Timed Entry tickets are non-refundable, and cannot be rescheduled.
Prime Nights (Fri. - Sun.): The new timed entry will significantly reduce the time needed to get to the Zoo and Park on weekends, and it will manage the flow of visitors to the exhibit. Once visitors have had their tickets scanned, they will enter the line leading from admissions to the start of the pumpkin trail. Generally this line does not take more than 45 minutes.
Value Nights (Mon. - Thurs.): These nights tend to be more lightly attended, particularly after 7:30pm. In general, for children and adults who have difficulty dealing with crowds and wait lines, the best nights to attend are the last week of the show, when attendance is lightest.
The Zoo has free nightly parking, which is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Additional parking is available on the street in Roger Williams Park.
We also offer OPTIONAL premium parking for $10 per car. This will be available nightly in the lot closest to the show entrance and exit gates. Again, this will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
No, ticket purchases are non-refundable, and timed entry tickets cannot be rescheduled.
Stroller and wheelchair rentals are not available at night, however, if a patron is in need of a wheelchair, admissions staff will provide one at no charge. Wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis and the trail is fully wheelchair accessible.
Reserve a wheelchair at least 48 hours in advance of your visit by calling Visitor Services at 401-785-3510 ext. 316.
Yes, ATMs are located at admissions behind booth 6 (on the right), and inside the River Camp Sweet Shop in the Jambo Junction African Village.
This is a seasonal art show that aims to delight and amaze, not to scare anyone of any age. Children who are sensitive to a lot of visual and sound stimulus might not be comfortable. In addition, it is highly likely that you will spend some time in line getting to the start of the pumpkin trail, and we cannot predict how much. Only you can know if this is suitable for your particular child.
The Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular is open rain or shine, closing only rarely for extreme downpours or unsafe weather conditions. Please check our homepage, Facebook, Twitter, or download our free mobile app for up-to-date information about any closings.
Visitors are also advised to check the weather forecast and dress accordingly for the evening. A misty, foggy night adds a wonderful ambiance to the experience, but you will want to be dressed for comfort.
Once you arrive at the entrance to the pumpkin trail, near the bison exhibit, it takes about 45 minutes to walk through the show. Wait time to enter the show can vary, depending on attendance on any given night. The pumpkin trail is about one-quarter mile long, and the line leading to and from the trail can add another half-mile to the walk.
Value Nights (Mon. - Thurs.): Adult $15; Child $12 (ages 2-12)
Prime Nights (Fri. - Sun.): Adult $18; Child $15 (ages 2-12); Timed entry only.

There are about 5,000 pumpkins on display at any one time, all lit with LED lights.
The Spectacular was founded in 1988 by John Reckner, formerly an Oxford, MA mail carrier. Mr. Reckner, his family and friends continue to produce the show that first came to RWP Zoo in 2001 and returned to the Zoo in 2009, after a 4-year hiatus. This team of professional pumpkin carvers, called Passion for Pumpkins, spends 6 - 8 weeks creating the magical display set on the Zoo’s wetlands trail amid special lighting and themed music.
They keep carving and enhancing the displays throughout the life of the show. The carvers expect to go through about 20,000 pumpkins during the course of the 32-night run. At the end, the pumpkins are collected and composted.
Over 125,000 people have attended the show for each of the past three years. Last year we had record-breaking attendance of over 140,000 guests.
The Spectacular has received rave reviews and national media attention for the one-of-a-kind, family friendly seasonal fun it offers. People come from all over New England, across the U.S., and even across oceans to enjoy the Spectacular.
The Spectacular is an important fundraiser for Roger Williams Park Zoo, a nonprofit organization. Proceeds from the event will support the Zoo’s animal care, environmental education and conservation efforts both locally and around the globe, plus Zoo improvements.
