Educator's Guide to Zoo Programs & Field Trips

Join us in our 37-acre living classroom! From programs that meet science Grade Span Expectations to tips for bringing inquiry learning concepts into your classroom, this Guide is filled with carefully designed programs to support you in your teaching efforts.

$110 per program, September - June
$150 per program in July and August

For programs outside a 20-mile radius of the Zoo there will be an additional charge as follows:
$15 for 20-34 miles
$35 for 35-54 miles
$55 for 55+ miles

We offer a 10% discount for facilities booking three programs in one day, or a series of more than 3 programs. For the health and safety of the animals, we must limit class size to 30 children.

Pre-K through Middle School Rate - $8/student
   - includes admission to the Zoo and the program (minimum of 15 paying students)

High School Rate - $13/student
   - includes admission to the Zoo and the program (minimum of 15 paying students)

Groups of children in Pre-K through first grade will receive 1 free chaperon admission for every 5 students.  Groups of children in second grade through high school will recieve 1 free chaperon admission for every 10 students.  Additional chaperones are $10 each.

Adult (13-61 years) $10
Providence Schools Free*
Senior (62+ years) $7
*Free during school year only, September through June

From September through June, groups will also receive 1 free adult chaperone admission per every 10 paid student (K-12th grade) admissions.

Booking Information

  • No deposit required to make your reservation
  • Payment is due in full on the day of your visit and groups are only charged for actual attendance.
  • Free parking for buses and cars.
  • Although we do not reserve rain dates, we will happily reschedule if necessary due to inclement weather, with no cancellation fee.
  • Average group visits range from 2.5 to 4 hours. If you plan to visit our gift shops or eat lunch, please adjust your schedule accordingly.
  • Fridays in May and June are the busiest; for a more enjoyable visit, try coming earlier in the week.
  • Your transportation reservations need to be made with bus companies prior to making the Zoo reservation.
  • Chaperones are required to remain with their students at all times while visiting the Zoo. For students in the first grade and under, we require one chaperon for every five students. For students second grade through high school, we require one chaperone to every ten students.

During this self guided tour, elementary students learn characteristics of animals while high school students learn the Latin and Greek scientific names given to each animal to identify them.

Climate Change / Global Warming / Go Green! During this self guided tour, students will learn about and observe animals that have been impacted by humans, other organisms, or environmental factors. Students will make connections demonstrating how their daily lives affect animals. They will also learn about zoo careers and what the Zoo is doing to protect endangered species.
