For Schools
Science and environmental education come to life at Roger Williams Park Zoo! Our fun, interactive programs are aligned with Rhode Island Grade Span Expectations and Early Childhood Learning Standards.
At the Zoo, we offer a number of science-based formal education programs to complement a field trip and the classroom curriculum. We also offer free, standards-based self-guided tours on our website, for teachers that want to make the most of a Zoo fieldtrip but may not be able to take advantage of a formal Zoo education program during their visit.
In the classroom, the Zoomobile carries the Zoo's educational messages to over 300 schools and more than 15,000 children and teachers annually.
To ensure that all Rhode Island school children are able to access the Zoo’s educational resources, the Zoo provides fieldtrip grants to Title I schools through a program called Trixie’s Fund. We also host 5 AmeriCorps members as part of a collaboration with Save the Bay and Norman Bird Sanctuary. These AmeriCorps members provide free or discounted programming to schools in Rhode Island’s urban districts and after school programming through organizations like the Boys & Girls Club and the Providence After School Alliance.
We offer additional resources just for teachers, like professional development opportunities and a quarterly Educator e-Newsletter that addresses current classroom challenges and best practices.
