Teen Opportunities
Roots & Shoots Club (Ages 13 - 17)

Roots & Shoots is an exciting program founded by Dr. Jane Goodall in 1991. Its mission is to guide young people into taking action on issues that they feel are important. Care and concern for the human community, the environment and animals are the goals of the activities at each meeting. The program's goal is to help young people develop self-respect, confidence and a hope for the future.

Zoo Career Workshop (Ages 13 – 17)

For teens who dream about working with animals or in a zoo, this workshop could be the start of an amazing journey. It takes a village to run a zoo, and in this special program, teens discover just how many different career opportunities a zoo offers. This educator-led workshop includes program animal encounters; tours of the John J. Palumbo Veterinary Hospital, animal commissary, and elephant and giraffe holding space; behind-the-scenes, hands-on interactions with zookeepers; and more. (Specific activities are subject to change)

A Southwestern lunch buffet of black bean and corn salad, grilled chicken with peppers and onions, seasoned beef, flour tortillas, Spanish rice, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes and onions, shredded cheese, salsa, sour cream, guacamole and churros is included.

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED. Please check back in September!

Please note: All registrations are final. There are no refunds unless the Zoo cancels the program.
