Excuse the Absence of Polar Bears at the Zoo While We Build A Brand
New Home for Our Most Beloved Bears
Roger
Williams Park Zoo is practically synonymous with polar bears. Built
over two decades ago, the polar bear exhibit, with its underwater
viewing window, is probably the most beloved and memorable exhibit
for generations of zoo visitors. That's why we're working to build
a brand new home for our polar bears, which will better meet the
high animal care standards of today's zoos and will also provide
visitors with an even more amazing close encounter with these, our
most beloved bears. So please pardon our appearance and accept our
apologies for the temporary absence of the polar bears during construction
- but most of all, stay tuned for updates and announcements regarding
the progress of this new cornerstone exhibit on www.thenewzoo.org!
Twenty-five
years ago, Roger Williams Park Zoo began to win national acclaim. Back
then, our polar bear exhibit was state of the art. People came in record
numbers to wonder and learn. And we were named "one of America's top ten
zoos" (Travel & Leisure magazine).
Today,
we are once again embarking on plans to ensure that the zoo you have come
to know and love continues to bring you new and extraordinary experiences
in the years ahead.
So,
what's the big idea? To make "New England's great zoo" (The Boston Globe)
an all new experience for you - no matter how many times you visit.
We're
rebuilding our cornerstone exhibit - polar bears - from the ground up.

But
that's not all.
We're
also making major renovations to another of our star exhbits that'll help
to make room for the possibility of one big bundle of joy; reworking other
exhibits to bring you even closer to the wonders of wildlife; and introducing
some exciting and fun new surprises all along the way.
Work
is already underway on a number of projects throughout the zoo, and we
encourage you to watch our evolution in action during your visits.
Stop
by the site of our old polar bear exhibit and get a unique peek at the
work being done "behind the scenes," as well as occasional exciting updates
on what else is in store.
You're
practically guaranteed to see something in the works whenever you visit,
because in the months and years ahead we'll be constantly working to bring
you a better zoo - so just watch us!
