Zoo Crew

Join the Zoo Crew!

Is Zoo Crew right for you? Zoo Crew is the Roger Williams Park Zoo, teen volunteer program. Teens that are in 8th-12th grade(which includes those that are currently in 7th grade, but will be going into 8th grade after summer), have three different opportunities to help the Zoo. The first opportunity is called Zoo Crew Teacher. Zoo Crew Teachers share information about the Zoo and special topics that are really important to the Zoo. The second opportunity is helping out our camp counselors with all the excitement of Zoo Camp. After the first summer of Zoo Crew, all Zoo Crew members can apply to be a Junior Keeper and work alongside our animal keepers (please note that this has limited availability). And even once the busy season winds down, Zoo Crew members can still participate in community service opportunities and field trips that we do throughout the year!

Want To be a Zoo Crew ... What do I do?
First decide if you want to apply to be a Zoo Crew Teacher or a Zoo Crew CIT. Then, complete the requirements listed in the application.

Zoo Crew will provide teens a fun experience and an opportunity to make lasting friendships and explore career opportunities. Zoo Crew is a year-round program with two levels:

Molly
Molly started volunteering at the Zoo in 2005 as a Zoo Crew Teacher and a helper on the Dino trail. Now a Zoo Crew Jr. Keeper, Molly works alongside zookeepers in the Plains of Africa exhibits once-a-week. When asked which exhibit she most enjoys working in, Molly responds, “My favorite exhibit to work in is definitely the aoudad enclosure because they are all so gentle and friendly. Working with animals like the cheetah and the wild dogs, it’s rewarding to go to work with the aoudads with whom I can hand feed and groom.” When not at the Zoo, Molly can be found at school, out shopping, or playing softball.

This photo, taken by a zookeeper at Roger Williams Park Zoo, shows Molly cradling a new addition to our Aoudad family. Henrietta, a female, was born in the fall of 2007.

Quote of the Summer

“The purpose of life is not to be happy - but to matter, to be productive, to be useful, to have it make some difference that you have lived at all.”
