ROSYBILL POCHARD
Netta peposaca
Range: Chile and Argentina to Uruguay.
Habitat: Shallow marshes.
Yummy: Mainly vegetable matter.
Hence the name, get it? The male has a black head, breast and upperparts;
pale grey flanks; and a bright red bill. The female is dull brown with a
blue-grey bill.
Independent babies: A clutch of eight to 14 green eggs is laid in
a ground nest. Incubation period is 25 days. The hatchlings are precocial
and are ready to leave the nest after one day.

over the water. This bird is considered a diving duck, though it rarely
dives and feeds more on plant materials than do the typical divers.
