The newly renovated Feinstein Junior Scholar Wetlands Trail was made possible by a generous $500,000 donation from Alan Shawn Feinstein. The Feinstein Junior Scholar Program began more than 10 years ago to promote community service projects to children throughout Rhode Island. Alan Shawn Feinstein offers membership to the program to children in grades K – 12 who have pledged to make a difference in their neighborhoods. Membership includes a personal identification card that offers unlimited free admission for them and a parent to attractions throughout Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts. Also, Mr. Feinstein has established over 12 million dollars in scholarships for Feinstein Jr. Scholars at Rhode Island colleges and universities.
Since its inception, more than 100,000 Rhode Island children have been named Feinstein Junior Scholars. Mr. Feinstein continues to visit approximately 100 area schools each academic year, encouraging students to do good deeds. In addition, he donates over $500,000 annually to public and private schools throughout R.I. to promote the program.
Mr. Feinstein has famously said, “helping to better the lives of others is the greatest of all achievements.” Roger Williams Park Zoo looks forward to supporting Mr. Feinstein’s message on the importance of giving. The Feinstein Junior Scholar Wetlands Trail will remind visitors of the importance of caring for their community, inspiring them to learn more about local environmental issues, work to keep our ecosystem clean and ensure a healthy, safe world to live in for many years to come.
