Located in the center of the zoo, the wetlands trail is a beautiful ¼ mile walking path through Rhode Island’s most endangered habitat. On any given day, visitors can discover a variety of native wildlife including Great blue herons, Canada geese, Wood ducks and turtles.
- The renovated Wetlands Trail is one of the first stages of the "New Zoo" Master Plan coming to life.
- It encourages visitors to reflect on what nature means to them personally.
- New exciting features along the trail include: a cedar bird blind; artists’ easels; new benches and picnic tables; a red cedar docent station; and identification signs for plants and animals designed to look like notes and sketches from a journal.
- The trail improvements were funded through a $500,000 grant from the Feinstein Foundation as a tribute to the Feinstein Junior Scholar Program. Special thanks also goes to Dominion Energy for their volunteer and grant support of the trail project.
