DESCRIPTION:Join us and Rhode Island Environmental Education Association on Saturday\, November 8\, 2025 from 9:15 am–4:30 pm for an exciting all-day event for youth ages 14–18 at the Zoo. This immersive experience combines learning\, connection\, and action\, all focused on climate change and environmental leadership. \nAfter the event\, teams will have the opportunity to receive support and apply for funding to turn their ideas into action. What’s Included: \n\nHands-on climate + sustainability activities\nTeamwork\, public speaking & leadership skills\nCreate a local climate action plan\nChance to receive funding & mentorship\nSurprise guest speaker (stay tuned!)\n\n\n\n\n\nParticipants must register in teams of 3–6 youth (ages 14-18) with an adult mentor (at least 21 years old). Registration closes: November 3\, 2025 at 5:30 pm.

DESCRIPTION:Join us and the Center for Biological Diversity on Wednesday\, November 5\, at 2 pm to learn about American burying beetles from conservation experts working to protect them. \nAmerican burying beetles are vibrant orange-and-black beauties of the insect world. They’re the largest carrion beetles in North America\, known for breaking down bird and rodent carcasses and returning their nutrients to the ecosystem. Listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act\, American burying beetles face habitat loss and scarce food souRrces due to expanding human development. \nThe Center is honored to host this FREE webinar featuring a panel of experts from across the country working on recovery efforts. These experts have more than 30 years of experience leading breeding\, reintroduction\, and monitoring programs for American burying beetles. \nOur panelists: Lou Perotti\, director of conservation programs for Roger Williams Park Zoo; Mandy Pritchard\, team leader of the World of the Insect Department at Cincinnati Zoo; Genelle Uhrig\, director of wildlife ecology at The Wilds Conservation Center in Ohio; Bob Merz\, director of the Center for American Burying Beetle Conservation at St. Louis Zoo; and Kayla Garcia\, zoological manager of invertebrates at St. Louis Zoo. \nRegister for the webinar to learn more about these efficient recyclers and the ongoing efforts to bring them back from the brink of extinction.
