Asian Lantern Spectacular

Celebrate 2000 years of tradition as you journey through a wonderland of larger-than-life illuminated lanterns at this dazzling evening experience. From dazzling and interactive displays to delicious Asian-inspired cuisine, this enchanting multicultural experience is sure to delight all ages!

Dates: April 13 - July 4 (Wednesday - Sunday evenings) from 6:00 - 10:30pm

The zoo-wide walk-through event which is produced by Hanart Culture will feature over 50 spectacular glowing lantern displays, kids interactive lantern area (weather-permitting), savory Asian-inspired cuisine and drinks, hand-crafted keepsakes, and more!

PLEASE NOTE:

  • The Asian Lantern Spectacular experience is RAIN or SHINE and all tickets are NON-REFUNDABLE and NON-TRANSFERABLE (unless there is a Zoo closure). In the case of extreme inclement weather and/or show cancellation, the Zoo will send out an email to all the show’s ticketholders, notifying of the cancellation. Show cancellations will also be posted here and the Zoo’s Facebook page.
  • Please be aware that the Spectacular's interactive childrens' area will be open weather-permitting and may be unavailable on inclement weather nights, even when the rest of the show is open. 
  • While guests have specific arrival windows, once checked in you are not on a time restriction and may stay for however long you wish until the event closes at 10:30 pm.

GROUP SAVINGS:

  • We offer the opportunity for organizations to host private events any night during our Asian Lantern Spectacular. No matter how big or small the event, we can provide you with an exciting evening. For more information, please contact: gsales@rwpzoo.org.
  • Groups with 25 or more paying guests save $1 on each ticket when all tickets are ordered online in one transaction.  The Asian Lantern Spectacular is a timed entry program, so all purchases must be made online in advance, with a specific date and time selected. To take advantage of group ticket savings: The group discount will automatically apply at checkout once you add 25 paid tickets to the cart and then advance to the next screen.  The e-tickets will then be emailed to you shortly after purchase – saving you from any postal delays!  Questions? Food Truck Friday at Carousel Village

Event Information

Come experience the array of foods and delicious sweets from a variety of vendors at this magnificent event. Take a ride on the historic Carousel, or hop onboard the Carousel Express train (weather permitting). Plus, admission is free! Bring a chair or blanket, and sit on the lawn. Food Trucks accept cash, credit, and debit.

PUParazzi Photos at Carousel Village - July 8

Calling all dogs! Join us for Puparazzi Photo Night during Carousel Village’s Food Truck Friday.  We’ll have wacky photo backdrops set up with “pup” culture themes so these pics will be anything but basic.  Capture a goofy memory with your favorite pooch – there’s a new theme every month! This month your dog can rock out with this "Woof"stock inspired event! And don't forget to bring your own camera to capture the fun.

What kind of dogs can join in? 

  • Food Truck Friday is an outdoor event that attracts many different people and a number of furry friends.  At times, the park may be noisy and this feature may have a short wait for photos, which are also outdoors.  If your pup is comfortable with these elements, please join us! 

Do I have to bring anything?

  • Creative canines can dress up or bring their own accessories, but this is not required!  The photo feature will be set up that night so dogs can come as-is and just bring his/her best smile.  Make sure you bring your own camera to capture the magic! 

How do I lock in a spot?

  • Tickets are sold on-site, so the cashier can help you that day.  Access to the pup photo booth is $5 and tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.  Bring your own camera to capture the magic!

Sip & Stroll Food Truck Night

If you’re looking for the perfect night out, then look no further. Sip and Stroll Food Tuck Night at the Zoo during this special, adults-only (21+) event! Enjoy live musical entertainment DJ's, amazing animal encounters, and photo-ops.

Guests will be able to purchase beer, wine, and specialty Zoo-themed cocktails at bars throughout the Zoo. Over 20 delectable food trucks will be on site throughout the zoo ground and available for purchase. Experience the Zoo after hours… all without the kids!

Bowling for Rhinos

There are only five species of rhinoceros left in the world - join our zoo keepers for a fun night of bowling, and you can help save them!

The Roger Williams Park Zoo chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) is hosting their 7th annual Bowling for Rhinos event to raise funds for rhino and habitat conservation. Not only can you expect a fun evening bowling with friends and family, but also a night that has a deeper impact on the environment. All funds go directly to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy to support black and white rhino conservation; and to the International Rhino Foundation to support conservation efforts for Javan and Sumatran Rhinos.

Yoga with the Elephants - August 6

Yoga with the Elephants/Soulful in the Serengeti

Grab your mat, fill your reusable water bottle, and get ready to relax with a 60-minute yoga session situated alongside our iconic African elephants. Tom McGunigal, the certified yoga instructor will guide you through poses designed to calm your mind and strengthen your body, and the class is designed for ALL fitness levels. After the session, enjoy an informal Q&A with an educator and all-day zoo admission for the class day.

Date: Saturday, August 6, 2022 (rain date: August 7, 2022) 

$40 per person

Morning schedule:
Each participant must bring their own yoga mat, water bottle, and face mask. All activities are held outside and will take place on a paved surface (you may bring an additional mat for added comfort, if you want).

  • 7 AM: Check-in
  • 7:30 AM: Class begins
  • 8:30 AM: Class ends; post-class exhibit talk before guests adventure through the zoo.
  • 9 AM: Zoo opens to the public and all attendees can explore the zoo!  

Weather policy:

This event takes place outdoors in the open-air of our African plaza. If heavy rains are forecasted, the class will be automatically rescheduled to Sunday, August 7, 2022. A decision about rescheduling will be made by the zoo at least 24 hours in advance. All participants will be notified via email, with the change also announced on the zoo's website and Facebook page. As a registrant, be sure you can attend BOTH sessions (August 6 & 7) so you do not miss out!  All sales are final, and the zoo will not be granting weather-related refunds, nor will refunds, exchanges, or transfers be possible if you cannot attend the rain date. 

 

Waivers, safety, & youth participation:

All participants must sign a waiver before they can participate. This waiver will be emailed to you before the class and must be completed before you enter the zoo. The zoo makes every effort to ensure a safe environment with this thoughtfully planned program, but no responsibility will be taken for any injuries you may incur during this practice. Please consult with your doctor to be sure yoga is safe and suitable for you, particularly if you have any pre-existing conditions. Additionally, you must be at least 16 years old to attend this experience.

Brew at the Zoo

Breakfast with the Elephants (Ages 7+) SOLD OUT

Rise and shine with the Zoo’s herd of African elephants in this exclusive experience before the Zoo opens.  We’ll start with an al fresco hot breakfast buffet before joining the zookeepers that care for the elephants to learn about elephant diets, care, training and more.  Guests will venture into the elephant yard to help prepare it for the day by providing enrichment and diet for our beloved elephant girls! Breakfast includes: slices of seasonal fresh fruit, freshly baked breakfast pastries, farm raised scrambled eggs, delicious crispy home-fried potatoes, and crispy hickory smoked bacon. Provided beverages include: orange juice, coffee and tea.*

Capacity is limited to 30 participants and openings will not last long.
