Homeschool Offerings

Let the Zoo help support your teaching efforts through programming, resources and events. We design our programs to help families explore, discover and observe the natural world. Pre-registration is required. See below for session details and information on registration.

*Please note: A Roger Williams Park Zoo or Reciprocal Membership is required for all non-Zoo School participants including parents, guardians, and siblings. Without a membership, non-zoo school participants, entering the zoo for drop-off, will be required to pay admission.

2023-2024 Zoo School Details:

Join Roger Williams Park Zoo for a series of monthly, hour-long classes, designed for homeschool students. These drop-off classes start in October and run through May. Pre-registration is required.

Program Cost (8 week session): $128

Cancellation Policy:

Refunds, minus a $15.00 processing fee per child, will be given up to 2 weeks before the start of your program. No refunds will be made after this date. There is a one-time registration fee for all class dates. We will not prorate for missed classes.
A minimum number of registrants is required to run a class. Families will be notified 48 hours in advance of the first scheduled class and be issued a full refund if a class needs to be cancelled due to low enrollment.

2023-2024 Session Two:

Dates: Classes will be held the second Friday of the month from October- May, EXCEPT IN NOVEMBER when it will be the third Friday. (10/13, **11/17, 12/8, 1/12, 2/9, 3/8, 4/12, 5/10)

6-8 year olds: Mythical Adaptations – Explore a different magical creature every month! We will compare a magical creature to its real-life counterpart, focusing on how they use their amazing adaptations to survive. We will work on compare and contrast skills, learn how to use a Venn diagram, and meet some amazing animals!

9-12 year olds: Small Zoo, Big Impact – What can you and your zoo do? Zoo Schoolers will learn how the zoo protects wildlife and wild places and be encouraged to join us! Each month will focus on a conservation species that the zoo works with as part of a local or global conservation initiative. Zoo Schoolers will be encouraged and empowered to be advocates for ecosystems and animals they feel passionate about saving.

2023-2024 Session One **Sold Out:

Dates: Classes will be held the first Friday of the month from October- May (10/6, 11/3, 12/1, 1/5, 2/2, 3/1, 4/5 and 5/3)

4-5 year olds: Animal Exploration – A great introduction to Zoo School! Participants will explore a specific animal each month through stories, crafts, games, centers and encounters with animal ambassadors.

13-16 year olds: Conservation of Endangered Species – Conservation is a complex process that involves many hands, voices, and expertise. Zoo Schoolers will explore the mechanisms of conservation such as field and lab research and the importance of community involvement in conservation. Zoo Schoolers will be encouraged to explore and advocate for conservation projects they are passionate about.
