We’re honored to announce your RWPZoo has earned reaccreditation from @zoos_aquariums. The Zoo was the first in New England to earn accreditation in 1986 and has been reaccredited continuously for 37 years.

AZA accreditation is a rigorous and comprehensive process that evaluates all aspects of a zoo or aquarium's operation, including animal welfare, veterinary care, keeper training, safety, education, conservation, finance, risk management, governance, and guest services.

"We are proud that our Zoo is helping to safeguard animals regionally and worldwide through wildlife conservation programs," said Stacey Johnson, executive director. "Additionally, AZA accreditation assures that we meet the highest standards in animal welfare and public education. This accreditation is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff and volunteers who believe in our mission to conserve wildlife and wild places."

Meet Velma the serval! 👋🏼 Read along for her story:

Velma is an African serval, a medium-sized feline native across sub-saharan African.

Velma recently came to the Zoo after the emergency relocation of more than 75 felines from a distressed private breeding facility in California.

Servals are a part of the Zoo's 20-year plan, however, Velma arrived earlier than anticipated. With capital projects already allocated in the budget for the year, the Zoo decided to raise emergency funds to build her home.

We have been fundraising for Velma over the last several months and we are so close to our goal to get her permanent home built before the winter!
