The acclaimed Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular presented by Citizens Bank is a much-anticipated annual event featuring a breathtaking display of 5,000 illuminated jack-o-lanterns carved into amazing works of art.    

Of the 5,000 pumpkins on display there are over 100 intricate pumpkins, living works of art that represent a yearly theme. These pumpkins can take anywhere from 10-15 hours to carve and will be created and re-created 4 times during the course of the show.

The event has won praise from across the nation for its amazing artistry and appeal as a unique family-friendly autumn destination in vibrant Providence, Rhode Island.  

The Zoo hosts the month long event as a fundraiser for its environmental education programs, its local and international conservation efforts, and for Zoo improvements.

Highlights from 2012: A Record Breaking Year

Mother Nature made quite a ruckus in October, but despite a rain-filled first week and hurricane conditions later in the month, a record 110,169 people turned out to experience the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular presented by Citizens Bank at Roger Williams Park Zoo.  The previous record of 107,646 people was set in 2010.

The Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular has been featured in print, television, and digital media including the Travel Channel’s “Halloween Crazier” (2012), Martha Stewart Living (2012), Rachel Ray (2010), USA Today, CNN.com, National Geographic World, Yankee Magazine, and more. Selected by the U.S. Library of Congress as a national “local legacy,” it was also featured on abc.com as one of the “top 11 Spookiest Destinations” in the country, as well as billed as a “top 100 event” by the American Bus Association. The Boston Globe called the presentation “awe-inspiring.”
