Volunteer for Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular

We Need You!

It’s that time of year when the Roger Williams Park Zoo is transforming for our largest and most successful long-term fundraiser - the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular!

School days are just around the corner, pumpkin spice is creeping into our coffee cups, and we are asking for volunteers to play a vital role in this month-long event. This fundraising event could not be successful without our volunteers! Volunteers support the event by providing a great customer service experience for the guests enjoying the trail. Volunteer duties may include directing visitors, answering frequently asked questions, and monitoring the trail.

Volunteers are needed any night(s), October 4 - November 3, for the following shifts:

Monday - Thursday from 4:45pm - 10:30pm

Friday - Sunday from 4:45pm - 11:00pm

Volunteers must be 16+

In a few days you will receive an email confirming your volunteer date(s).  If you have any further questions about volunteering please indicate it in the appropriate space on the questionnaire and we will be in touch asap.

If you sign up to volunteer, we expect you to take full responsibility for showing up on time and staying the duration of the shift.

As a thank you for supporting the event, each volunteer will receive 2 complimentary tickets for the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular along with a chance to win exciting raffle prizes at the completion of their shift!

New in 2019 - Raffle Prizes!

RWPZoo has worked extra hard this year to include some new and exciting raffle prizes as a thank you for our indispensable volunteers for Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular! At the end of each shift, volunteers can enter a raffle for the chance to win some amazing prizes like RWPZoo swag, special Zoo experiences (including behind-the-scenes encounters!) and even a Zoo membership. The more nights you volunteer, the higher your chances are to win!

How can I get involved as a volunteer for the Jack-o-Lantern Spectacular?

Fill out the following survey through this link! Once completed volunteers will be contacted by the Seasonal Events Volunteer Coordinator at pumpkinvolunteer@rwpzoo.org to follow up and schedule. Please note that until the survey has been completed and you are contacted and scheduled, you are not officially signed up to volunteer.

What is a volunteer shift like?

Volunteers for the Jack-o-Lantern Spectacular are expected to volunteer from 4:45pm-10:30pm during the event. Upon arrival volunteers will be given an orientation and will learn more about the event! Volunteers are then assigned a position for the night. Volunteers will receive breaks and a chance to eat dinner. Complimentary coffee, hot cocoa, and apple cider is on us – on and of course a good selection of Halloween candy! At the end of the shift, volunteers are dismissed and receive their hours or tickets for volunteering and an entry ticket into our new prize raffle!

What will volunteers be doing during the event?

During the night, volunteers will be helping with all sorts of needs! There are many guest service-based needs including directing the flow of the queue and answering questions. Some volunteers are asked to monitor the elephants to be sure that event attendee can appreciate the elephants – but at a safe distance. Many of our volunteer positions assist with helping visitors with the Zipline.

Who can volunteer?

With the event being every night of the week – we need all the help we can get! We do however have some requirements. With the responsibilities and accountability needed for such a big production, volunteers must be 16 years of age or older.

Can I bring my child?

For our special events, children are not permitted to volunteer even if accompanied by an adult.

What do I get out of volunteering?

Most importantly, we hope that you will have fun! Plus, as a thank you for your volunteer time, volunteers receive 2 tickets to the event, or if needing hours for school or another service requirement – those can be granted instead. Volunteers cannot receive community service hours and tickets for one shift.
