Early Childhood Programs (3 - 5 years)

Early childhood education programs at Roger Williams Park Zoo offer a fun, age-appropriate way for parents and their children ages 3 to 5 to discover the natural world together.  Programs run from September through May, and themes change monthly. A new and exciting experience awaits participants at every class!

Early Childhood Opportunities
Our programs are a great way for little ones to discover the natural world.
NEW: Nature Explorers (Ages 3-5)

These 60-minute programs focus on exploring nature and present opportunities for adult/child pairs to make discoveries outdoors together.  Programs include free play, a lesson, activity, craft, and an encounter with one of our ambassador animals. Please note this program does not include direct interaction with exhibit animals. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Please note: Due to covid guidelines we have a strict capacity limit. NO extra adults or siblings will be allowed to attend the program. Your registration is for one child and one adult.

Pricing:

  • Members: $14 per child/adult pair
  • Non-members: $42 per child/adult pair

Location: all classes will take place outdoors in Hasbro’s Our Big Backyard. Participants should be prepared to be outside for the duration of the program and should be prepared to get dirty.

Participants will be able to enter the Zoo through the Main Admissions Gate 10 minutes before the start of their program. 

Please Note: Classes will take place rain or shine. Classes may be cancelled in extreme weather. If a class is cancelled by the zoo, a full refund will be issued

Pre-registration is required and ends 24 hours prior to the program. Refunds are only given if the program is cancelled by the Zoo. Requests to transfer the date of your registration must be received at least 48 hours in advance.  A $5 fee will be charged when any change is made.

Please note that a minimum of 5 program participants is required to run a class. Participants will be notified one week before the scheduled class if a class has to be cancelled due to low enrollment.

Traditional Preschool Adventures (Ages 3 - 5)

These programs present opportunities for adult/child pairs to make discoveries together.  Programs include free play, a lesson, activity, craft, and an encounter with one of our ambassador animals. Please note this program does not include direct interaction with exhibit animals. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Theme: Giraffes – What has a long neck, a purple tongue and is found roaming the African Savannah? You guessed it, a giraffe! Join us as we explore all there is to know about these totally tall creatures.

Cost: $14 per adult child/pair (member); $42 (non-member)

Location: Education Center (Not Zoolab)

Masking

  • When indoors, masks are required for all participants (children and adults).
  • Masks will be required outdoors when 3 feet of distance cannot be maintained.
  • Masks are required for all guests in the Rainforest exhibit and for unvaccinated guests in all other buildings.

Please note: All masking and distancing requirements are subject to change at any time. If any changes are implemented, you will be notified prior to your scheduled class.

NEW: Two-Day Series Preschool Adventures (Ages 3-5)

These programs present opportunities for adult/child pairs to make discoveries together.  Programs include free play, a lesson, activity, craft, and an encounter with one of our ambassador animals. Please note this program does not include direct interaction with exhibit animals. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Theme: Sea Lion vs Seal – They both eat fish and are expert swimmers, but I’m not LION when I say that a sea lion and a seal are two very different creatures. Join us as we discover how one of these things in not like the other. It’s sure to be a splashing good time!

Cost: $28 per adult/child pair; $84 per adult/child pair
