It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved golden lion tamarin, Raff.

Raff arrived at the Zoo in June 2018 and she was one of the first of her species to make a home in our rainforest habitat. For years, she was a vibrant presence in our rainforest, easily recognized by the unique, permanent bend in her tail.

Raff was an extraordinary mother, maintaining the social order of her group while raising the beautiful chaos of her many offspring: Angus, Magnus, Boudicca, Archie, Leopold, twins Colin and Hildreth, and Nora. She was a remarkable ambassador for her species, connecting countless visitors with the wonder of the rainforest.

Sadly, Raff passed away last week due to complications experienced during her pregnancy. In the days since her passing, our dedicated animal care team has been closely monitoring her partner Kyle and her youngest children, Colin and Nora. We will continue to provide them with the highest level of care and support during this transition to ensure their ongoing health and wellbeing.

Raff leaves behind an incredible legacy and her presence will be deeply missed by the keepers, staff and visitors who grew to love her. 💕
It’s World Frog Day! 🐸 Meet the iconic Amazon Milk It’s World Frog Day! 🐸 Meet the iconic Amazon Milk Tree Frog ✨

Don't let the name fool you, they don't drink milk! When they feel threatened, these frogs secrete a white, poisonous fluid from their skin that looks like milk. It’s a clever "stay away" signal to hungry predators.

These arboreal beauties are also famous for their blue-tinted skin and incredible climbing skills. They have huge toe pads that help them live high in the rainforest trees, rarely ever touching the ground.

As amphibians, they are an indicator species. Their health tells us exactly how healthy their environment is because they are the first to feel the effects of pollution and climate change. While these frogs aren't currently endangered, their home, the Amazon Rainforest, is under constant threat from deforestation. Sharing their story is the first step in protecting them, because every voice added to the chorus helps ensure these vibrant frogs have a home for generations to come.
