Happy World Giraffe Week! 🦒 When we think of giraf Happy World Giraffe Week! 🦒 When we think of giraffes, we usually think of their incredible height and gentle eyes. But today, we are shining a spot-light on some of their unique and important social behaviors!

🟠 Did you know that giraffe mothers form nursery groups called "crèches?" One mother will watch over multiple calves so the other moms can wander off, forage, and get a much-needed break. This also allows giraffe littles to play, form social bonds, and learn the basics of being a giraffe.
🟠 Giraffes spend 16-20 hours per day eating. By eating the leaves at the very top of acacia trees, giraffes keep tree growth in check. This allows lower-level plants to get sunlight, feeding the rest of the ecosystem as well.
🟠 For a long time, people thought giraffes were mostly mute. Turns out, they hum to each other at night! They also use “infrasound” (low-frequency noises) that travel across vast distances below the range of human hearing.

For more interesting facts and giraffe week activities, visit: www.worldgiraffeweek.org/education and join us to celebrate World Giraffe Day on Friday, June 19th from 11am - 2pm 🦒🧡
