Christmas trees make excellent enrichment items because of the sensory stimulation they provide with their distinct smells and textures, encouraging natural behaviors like sniffing, rubbing, and play.

A huge congratulations to our very own Dr. Jessica A huge congratulations to our very own Dr. Jessica Lovstad (DVM, MS, DACZM) on achieving her board certification as a Diplomate of the American College of Zoological Medicine (DACZM).🐾🩺

Achieving DACZM status is the pinnacle of veterinary training, requiring years of advanced residency and mastering an extensive body of research. Dr. Lovstad’s dedication to blending clinical expertise with rigorous conservation research elevates the care she provides every day.

Roger Williams Park Zoo proudly celebrates Dr. Lovstad’s achievement and the mastery she brings to advancing animal health, conservation science, and the Zoo’s mission. To read her full profile, check out our most recent WILD Magazine: bit.ly/WILD2026 👏🏼
🦅 From the brink of extinction to the icons of our 🦅 From the brink of extinction to the icons of our skies, bald eagles remind us that conservation works! This #SaveTheEaglesDay, we honor their journey, and advocate for the many eagle species still fighting for survival globally.

Of the nearly 70 species of eagles in the world, over half are considered endangered, vulnerable, or threatened. We must spread awareness today and every day in order to help protect and conserve these magnificent raptors.

Today they both received hoof trims from the farrier as part of their preventative care. Regular hoof trims help prevent pain, support healthy movement, and keep our donkeys comfortable and happy! 😊
The results are in, and our incredible ambassador The results are in, and our incredible ambassador animal squad took home some well-deserved superlatives! These amazing animals created over 52,000 profound connections in 2025, while another 42,000 of you got up close and personal at our interactive Connection Corner.

Every encounter helps spark a lifelong passion for protecting our planet and the wildlife we share it with. A massive shoutout to our dedicated animal care teams for making this magic happen every single day. We are so ready to see what new adventures await in 2026!

Remembering Don Juan ❤️ We are sad to share the ne Remembering Don Juan ❤️ We are sad to share the news of the passing of one of our beloved goats, Don Juan. At nearly 13 years old, he had been closely monitored for weight loss and other age-related medical concerns, and the difficult decision to euthanize him was made last week. Despite his illness, Don Juan continued greeting his keepers and enjoying his favorite snacks right up until the very end.

Don Juan had a sweet disposition and simple taste, he enjoyed resting in the yard on a sunny spot and consuming the Zoo’s very best petting zoo grain. Don always established his position at the Goat Yard fence, eagerly accepting all of the snacks and pets our guests had to offer.

For many of our youngest guests, Don Juan was their first "profound" animal connection. Through every pat, every handful of grain, and every family photo, he helped build core memories that stay with us for a lifetime. He wasn't just a goat; he was an ambassador, a teacher, and a friend. His presence at the Farmyard is already missed.
