Local Farmer’s World-Record Squash Featured at Roger Williams Park Zoo’s Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular
Providence, R.I. (Oct. 15, 2025 ) Visitors to this year’s Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular at Roger Williams Park Zoo will see something truly giant; a world-record-breaking green squash weighing in at an amazing 2,200 pounds!
The massive squash was grown by local farmer Joe Jutras of Scituate, R.I., who has been partnering with the Zoo for years to provide pumpkins for the trail every fall. Jutras, a long-time competitive grower, holds multiple records for his Atlantic Giant pumpkins and squashes, but this year’s achievement tops them all. The award was presented at the 2025 SNGPG Weigh Off at Frerichs Farm.
“We’re thrilled to showcase Joe’s incredible world-record squash as part of this year’s Spectacular,” said Mike Finizza of Passion for Pumpkins, the Zoo’s partner for this annual event. “His dedication and skill have contributed to the event’s success for many years, and this record-breaking squash is the perfect addition to our show this year.”
Guests can see Joe’s record-breaking squash on display during the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular, open nightly through November 2nd, at Roger Williams Park Zoo. The Spectacular features thousands of intricately carved pumpkins illuminating the Wetlands Trail in a one-of-a-kind New England fall experience for all ages.
