Today is Endangered Species Day, a time to celebra Today is Endangered Species Day, a time to celebrate the incredible wildlife we share this planet with, and a wake-up call to protect them before they’re gone forever.

For more than 50 years, the Endangered Species Act (ESA) has served as a vital safety net for wildlife, helping prevent the extinction of 99% of the species under its protection. Recently, the law has faced a number of challenges, including changes that will impact habitat protections. At the same time, public support for wildlife conservation has remained strong. Thanks to conservation organizations and people like you who care deeply about protecting nature, vulnerable species and habitats, the outpouring of support is firmly pushing back against changes to the ESA. Your voice can make a difference! 💙

You can join us in standing for wildlife by visiting the Zoo to celebrate Endangered Species Day tomorrow, Saturday May 16th. Meet amazing animals and learn about the important work being done right here and around the globe to protect them. Plus, enjoy fun education stations, live musical entertainment by the Unlikely Strummers, special Tree Kangaroo Day activities and games, and connect with local community groups.

Can't make it to the Zoo? You can still make an impact! Head over to the @endangeredspeciescoalition to learn how to take direct action to defend the ESA. www.endangered.org/take-action/

These unique birds get their name from its broad bill that resembles the hull of a boat, perfect for snatching up fish, crustaceans, insects, and amphibians. They’re large, dark eyes are also adapted for nighttime hunting.
