Since Humboldts are tropical penguins, they will remain behind the scenes in their temperature controlled holding building where the snow is just for some fun enrichment! ❄️🐧

Our vet team is riding out the storm at the Zoo! ❄ Our vet team is riding out the storm at the Zoo! ❄️🩺 The Zoo may be closed, but the care never stops. Our veterinary team is part of the essential overnight crew, staying on Zoo grounds in case of any animal emergencies.

In today’s case, a routine wound care procedure under anesthesia was performed on Blueberry the blue-bellied roller. Her wound was cleaned, and the dressing was changed to help it heal and prevent infection.

We are incredible grateful to the veterinary team, and the rest of the essential overnight crew (keepers and operations teams) for their dedication to keeping our animals and Zoo safe during the storm! ❄️

❄️ ZOO CLOSURE NOTICE ❄️ Due to the forecasted win ❄️ ZOO CLOSURE NOTICE ❄️ Due to the forecasted winter storm, the Zoo will be closed on Sunday, January 25 and Monday, January 26.

With a storm on the way, the safety of our animals is top priority! We’ve taken extra precautions to keep everyone cozy. Most of our residents are resting in climate-controlled indoor spaces, while our outdoor friends have full access to heated, covered barns with additional warm bedding.

We are extremely grateful to our keepers and vet staff who will be here taking care of all of our animals during the storm, and to our operations staff that will be here clearing the snow and keeping the pathways safe! 💙
