Pecan is an Ossabaw Island Hog, known for being exceptionally hardy and well-adapted to cold weather. They have unique metabolisms that allow them to store large fat reserves during low-food periods. (Pecan doesn’t have to worry about that, because she gets lots of yummy food and warm shelter here every day!)

Happy Zebra Day! 🦓🖤 Let's talk about those iconic Happy Zebra Day! 🦓🖤 Let's talk about those iconic stripes! When a zebra is standing still, those bold stripes might seem easy to spot. But, the stripes come in handy as camouflage when a herd of zebras, properly known as a dazzle, starts to move.

As the zebras run, their overlapping stripes create a dizzying optical illusion. This makes it incredibly difficult for predators (like lions) to judge the speed, distance, and even the direction of a single zebra.
