Homeschool Offerings

For the safety of staff and participants, we are not currently able to provide in person programs at the zoo or at your site. However, we are excited to offer our all NEW Digital Zoo School Series - Fridays, October 2 - November 20! Pre-registration is required. See below for details and to register.

Program Offerings & Pricing
NEW Digital Zoo School

Join Roger Williams Park Zoo for a series of virtual classes designed for homeschool students. This 8-week series runs every Friday from October 2nd  through November 20th. Pre-registration is required. Registration includes a Zoo School box with some materials and follow-up activities.

Dates: Fridays, October 2 - November 20

Cost:

  • $104 Box curbside pick-up at the Zoo
  • $124 Box shipped

Offerings:

  • 5-7 years old – 10:00 am. Theme: World of Adaptations. From the freezing tundra to arid deserts, animals have managed to make their homes everywhere. Learners will explore the structural and behavioral adaptations that help animals survive.

  • 8-12 years old – 11:30 am. Theme: Let’s be a Scientist. Learners will be encouraged to explore their passion for animals and the natural world while developing skills of observation and questioning.

  • 13-16 years old –  1:00 pm. Theme: Our Changing Climate. Life on Earth depends on, is shaped by, and affects climate and our understanding of the climate system is improved through observations, modeling, data, and theoretical studies. Learners will build their climate literacy by exploring the Earth’s complex climate system, lines of evidence, impacts on ecosystems and solutions.

Cancellation Policy

Refunds, minus a $15.00 processing fee per child, will be given up to September 24th.  No refunds will be made after this date. There is a one-time registration fee for all class dates. We will not prorate for missed classes.

A minimum number of registrants is required to run a class. Families will be notified 1 week in advance and be issued a full refund if a class needs to be cancelled due to low enrollment. 

In-person Zoo School

Join Roger Williams Park Zoo for a series of monthly, hour-long classes, designed for homeschool students. These drop-off classes start in September and run through April. Pre-registration is required.

*Please note: A Roger Williams Park Zoo or Reciprocal Membership is required for all non- Zoo School participants including parents, guardians, and siblings. Without a membership, non- zoo school participants, entering the zoo for drop-off, will be required to pay admission.

Offerings:

  • Ages 4-5: Animal Exploration 
  • 10:30-11:30 am
  • 12:00-1:00 pm 
    • A great introduction to Zoo School! Participants will explore a specific animal each month through stories, crafts, games, centers and encounters with animal ambassadors.
    • *For the safety of the participants, this class does not include exploration within the Zoo. 
    • *Please note even though the theme is same as the 2018-2019 Zoo School Series, all of the monthly topics will be different.*
  • Ages 6-8: Animal Classification 
  • 10:30-11:30 am  /  12:00-1:00 pm
    • Through centers, crafts, games and encounters with animal ambassadors, participants will explore how scientists classify animals based on their structures.
    • *For the safety of the participants, this class does not include exploration within the Zoo.
  • Ages 9-12: Nicknames and Nomenclatures 
  • 10:30-11:30 am  /  12:00- 1:00 pm
    • Through lessons, activities, encounters with animal ambassadors and exploration of the Zoo, participants will explore taxonomy using the hierarchical system for classifying and identifying organisms.
  • Ages 13-16: Animal Related Careers: Explore the Possibilities 
  • 1:30-2:30 pm
    • Through interactive lessons, encounters with animal ambassadors and Zoo exploration, participants will explore animal related career opportunities.

Zoomobile Programs

Through interactive educational presentations and live "animals interviews," the Zoomobile carries a message of compassion for all living things and a greater understanding of our wonder-filled living planet. We will present all of our Zoomobile programs at the Zoo or at your location.

Each program includes a lesson, activity and three live animals. The program is for a seated audience (30 max.).

Pricing:

  • At your Location:
    • Daytime Monday-Friday: $140 for a single program; $100 for each additional program on the same day. (Mileage fee may apply.)
    • Evenings and Weekends: $175 for a single program; $125 for each additional program on the same day. (Mileage fee may apply.)
  • At the Zoo:
    • $13/child (12 and under); $16/child (ages 13+)
    • (Minimum of 15 participants needed for a program at the Zoo.)
